DoktorConnect: Moving From Reactive To Proactive Health Care

Dr. Joseph Olowe, a renowned healthcare specialist and entrepreneur, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DoktorConnect, an innovative digital platform transforming healthcare in Africa. With over 30 years of experience in physical medicine, garnered mainly from professional practice in the United States of America, Dr. Olowe applies a wealth of knowledge to his entrepreneurial work.

In this interview with Doing Business in Nigeria, Dr. Olowe shares the mission of DoktorConnect, now serving 400,000 users and counting, to move the healthcare system from reactive to proactive care and make quality health services more accessible and affordable for Africans. Excerpts:

Question: How did you decide to start DoktorConnect in Nigeria?

Answer: An incident happened. That incident led me to take the bold decision to come and do something in Nigeria. A friend of mine by the name of Jim passed away at age 42. Jim was a wonderful, healthy young man who worked out, ate well, ate right. He was somebody who paid attention to his health. Unfortunately, he passed away at age 42 and the cause of death was something that could have been prevented.

WHAT’S NEW

Nigeria-Indonesia Strengthen Business Commitment

The Nigerian-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) held its quarterly meeting and induction ceremony in Lagos, focusing on strengthening trade and investment ties between Nigeria and Indonesia. Themed “Unlocking Business Opportunities Between Nigeria and Indonesia for the 21st Century,” the event gathered business leaders, government officials, and key stakeholders.

NICCI President Ishmael Balogun highlighted the chamber’s role in fostering partnerships and shaping policies, while Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, Director-General of PEBEC, emphasised Nigeria’s commitment to business-friendly reforms. She outlined initiatives like the Regulatory Impact Analysis Framework, government service digitisation, and the ReportGov complaint platform to improve the ease of doing business.

NICCI Chairman Otunba Femi Pedro encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage networking opportunities and trade missions to Indonesia.

The event concluded with a panel discussion, Q&A session, and induction of new NICCI members. Princess Zahrah later emphasized the strategic benefits of the Nigeria-Indonesia partnership, citing Indonesia’s manufacturing expertise and Nigeria’s vast market potential. She also promoted Nigeria’s new e-visa policy to attract more foreign investors.
