Top 3 Diaspora Communities For Insights On Investing In Nigeria

Nigerians in the diaspora can benefit from joining various communities and networks that provide information, networking opportunities, and investment guidance.

These communities exist both online and as physical organisations, offering valuable connections and insights that can help navigate the Nigerian investment landscape more effectively.

In today's newsletter, we will feature three types of communities and platforms to join as a Nigerian in the diaspora to gain insights on investing in Nigeria:

1. Online Diaspora Communities

Regardless of your location, you would find that there is probably an online diasporan community that is suited to your needs.

Numerous Nigerian diaspora communities serve as essential networking hubs across Facebook, WhatsApp and LinkedIn. These communities provide spaces to discuss investment opportunities, share experiences, and connect with fellow diaspora members. Connecting diaspora members with similar investment interests and providing insights from those who have already navigated the investment process.

Examples of such communities include Nigerians In the United Kingdom, Nigerians In Diaspora Europe (NIDOE), etc.

2. Diaspora Investment-Focused Platforms

One of the most prominent platforms for Nigerians in the diaspora to gain information about investment opportunities, regulatory requirements, and market trends in Nigeria, is the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS). It aims to connect diaspora investors with local entrepreneurs, SMEs, and startups across various sectors of the Nigerian economy. Since its launch in 2018, this initiative has empowered the diaspora to invest their resources, expertise, and networks into fostering economic growth in Nigeria.

Joining this summit provides access to:

  • Networking opportunities with potential business partners

  • Actionable investment strategies specific to Nigeria's economic landscape

3. Region-Specific Diaspora Associations

Physical diaspora associations exist in many countries with significant Nigerian populations.

These organisations typically hold regular meetings, networking events, and investment seminars. They often have investment committees or special interest groups focused on helping members explore business opportunities in Nigeria.

These associations serve as valuable in-person networks where diaspora members can share experiences, offer advice, and sometimes even form investment partnerships.

They frequently invite guest speakers from Nigeria, including business leaders and government officials, to provide firsthand information about investment opportunities and regulatory environments.

Speak to other Nigerians in your region to access your respective communities.
